The Norwegian government wants to open up the country's continental shelf for deep sea mining. Norway is known as a bit of an environmental contradiction. It has one of the highest uptakes of electric cars in the world, but also oil and gas giant with huge output of fossil fuels. The oceans are a vast source for many of these critical minerals. These resources can secure a low environmental footprint supply compared to terrestrial mines or reduce geopolitical supply risk.
