The Importance of Depth in User Interface Design

Sebastian DeWitt: The third dimension of depth gives you more channels along which to communicate with the person who's using the interface. With flat design, often a button might look like something else just because there's only so many sort of things you could tweak for each of your elements. He says people should learn ways to embellish their designs more to make things more visually rich but not too embellished.
