The Jacobite cause was a romantic cause. They weren't communist revolutionaries, they were fighting to replace the monarch with a different monarch. So it's maybe not the noble cause of Scottish independence that say William Wallace and Robert the Bruce had fought for centuries before. This one, looking back from what you might call like a liberal Western perspective, feels a bit more silly and wasteful. But of course, as a Scottish person, you might be inclined to feel proud about it.
