A mathematician back in world war too named abraham wald was hired by the military to help out with figuring out where should we armor planes or things like that. So it turns out that rather than it being the fact that all planes are getting shot in the wings an the chassi and not on the engines, it turns out those are the areas of the plane that can get shot but still come home alive.
