The supply integrity of gold was protected because it required the expenditure of energy to produce new gold. That paradigm is exactly what Bitcoin is. Basically, you have to expend energy to create new units. You can't just push a button and that's not all works. There's a competition taking place called mining. These computers are expending energy to try and solve.
