Aristotle's Basis for Reasoning
Aristotle's sylloges had such a big impact. Drove philosophy for so long and still, to a certain extent, the recent take up was from his basis. What is it about that which organizes reasoning in a way which validates that method for hundreds of years to come? I think it's partly the level of abstraction with which he could deal with it. So all sorts of arguments can be of these various forms, and some of them aren't so obviously valid as the ones we've been talking about. And he had methods of showing that they were nonetheless valid,. Then his hope was that reasoning would follow these forms.
