The Psychology of Paul's Conversion
Paul's encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus is described in psychological rather than supernatural terms. The word 'supernatural' has been co-opted into that either or, he says. Paul may well have been praying and meditating on Ezekiel 1 when he came across Jesus as a figure sitting on the throne of God. This would be quite enough to knock him off his horse if he was on one, so it means simultaneously everything he has ever believed is validated and true.
