The Importance of Speaking in a Second Language in Therapy
Rwandan culture is very clinical and stark. It's almost like from an evolutionary perspective talking about that culture you know with the Rwandan example it's actually counterproductive to try and process through all of this in English. So yeah it's so true I remember talking to one cross-cultural psychologist and in therapy she was saying that often speaking in a second language can be useful because it can provide a little bit of distance they can speak perhaps more openly about the difficulty. But at the same time it also comes with a huge drawback because there are times where they can't fully describe what it is that they're feeling and what's going on.
