The Politics of Secularism
In terms of political theology, secularism is the murder of God by the state. Halak does rise to the poetic levels of Edward Seid, I would argue, but only in this rare occasion. The state can delimit, limit, exclude or curtail any religious practice. And thus has the power to determine the quality and quantity of the religious sphere as it the state sees fit. This is modern secularism. It's not neutral. We are the expression of the sovereign collective will. That's where the modern state gets its authority from.
