This election is the culmination of the Republican Party becoming the party of southern whites, essentially. There were five states where the margin of error was less than 1%. There were actually recounts in Oregon and Wisconsin as well as Florida. What that really shows is not necessarily that he was such a bad campaigner. It's really the fact that Democrats cannot compete in the South.
