I like what they did better because they certainly didn't deserve to die. Underlying this context of all the things we're talking about here is the absence of something which I don't know if they are going to try and bring into the story. Osanwe Kenta is Tolkien's concept of the ability to speak mind to mind. He's most strong in the elves, but some humans also have the capacity. Nobody can force anybody else to read anything or say anything except by severe force of will.
