The Advancement of Deep Learning in Machine Learning
When you go to that level of dimensionality it normal intuitions about how to make predictions really breakdown and so i would say a lot of the progress in machine learning is the fact that actually you can do a lot with what looks initially like a simplistic model. So there's a mismatch between what people's intuitions were and what the systems were actually capable of, he says. The standard approach these days to machine learning is to use neural networks and deep learning which are designed through many layers.
