The History of Lyka Yasdovsky
Professor Victor Yasdovsky was nine in 1957 when Sputnik II launched. His father, Vladimir Yasdovsky, was a doctor and an engineer in charge of the medical side of the Soviet space program. He played with experimental animals including Lyka before she went into orbit. There were no systems at the time capable of returning living creatures from earth orbit.
