His first brush with real world programming was at this aforementioned observatory. More needed to get computer time scheduled to feed in the four train compiler than to actually compile his new code. This is also where more ran into the problem that all programmers of this era faced. Computer time was very precies. Commodity batch processing was the order of the day. Time sharing had been theorized, but wasn't seeing any practical use.
