The Origins of Liberal Nationalism

Mazini was the, the first liberal nationalist and probably the first theorist of nationalism. He believed that the right of national self-determination was the right of every nation. And he founded Young Italy, which was an organization working to create an independent Italian state. But then he also helped to found young Germany, young Poland, young Switzerland. If you are able to acknowledge the meaning of national emotion, national sentiment, national commitments in other people, then you are a liberal nationalist.
