The Taxonomy of Race Is Legitimate
In the Great Gatsby, Tom Buchanan mentions the Madison Grant book and the Lothrop stardard book as a kind of portmenteau. Hemingway also pushed back on it in the subtitle of one of his books too. And today we're told by many activists that if we disregard race, we won't be able to identify or address actual deprivation and harm in the world. That's just preposterous. If you can't recognize a poor person who happens to be black, then I think that's a problem. But again, if you're obsessing over disparities, then that's a separate problem.
