I think once we start really thinking about affiliations, who's with whom, I think the story is a lot messier. There'll be times when you'll find that Murdoch and Austin are on the same page about something, but against Anscombe. And there'll be other times when Anscombe and Austin, who loathed each other in personal life, actually have exactly the same view to have Murdoch and the other. That's just what we should expect. Why should we expect any thoughtful individuals with any level of intellectual originality simply to line up in the convenient pattern? What counts as the right sort of move within this conversation?
