In the east, kneeling is a sign of penance. The divine liturgy is not meant to be penitential. It's meant to be a celebration. I come barefoot, poor, with nothing to offer but myself. And so as as i am in the profession service, i'll prostrate thrice as i come closer and closer to the lord. So what are people actually walking down the aisle? They're crying out for mercy,. Like i was quoting earlier from that monk who had given us a retreat at the monastery one time.
