The Right Approach for Bleeding Neck Injuries
The patient arrives with one stab wound in the left anterior neck, which you describe as a zone one injury. The primary survey may reveal asymmetric blood pressure in the upper extremities. An additional anatomical area that should garner high suspicion of cardiovascular injury is the cardiac box. With penetrating neck injuries, especially where the trajectory is clear, this isn't mandatory and can interfere when we are trying to assess for an expanding hematoma or prepare for intubation.
