There's a case to be made that when the people have their needs met, they don't get addicted. And historically, thes was like a railway track. For instance, if you went back hundred thousand years and you had a sugar craving, what could you get? Vegetables, fruit. You know, if you needed connection, you had to meet someone. So every time, the want would meet the need. And i think it's because of modern society that we've been able to distil the trigger from the substance.
