The Relationship Between Obesity and Poor Health Outcomes

When did people first make the connection that there is an association between obesity and adverse health outcomes? When you think back too a thousand years ago, or back with the egyptian aristocrats, obesity probably would have been a sign of affluence. Back in medical school, i remember learning about gout, and how gout emerged around this time. And it was really this disease of excess, right? Excess alcohol, excess sugar, excess protein would manifest it fin gout. So i can't imagine people were too upset to be o b back then.
