CHAPTER

The Effects of Shoes on Stiffness

Max: We sort of innately and innately stiffen up to minimize the degrees of possible movements that occur at each joint. So it doesn't just apply with what's about to happen but also what's on your feet, which of course doesn't change. This could be dangerous we could roll an ankle or we could, you know, something could happen so we sort of everything just tightens up and limits the possible movements. Yeah, it's remarkable isn't it? It happens so seamlessly without without conscious awareness it's just happening I think we can all reflect on times though where we've almost had a misstep because our anticipatory controls have been a little bit off.
