Is It That Comparisons Are Invariably Upward?
There's a pronounced tendency we have to make upward comparisons in all areas of life. The reasons for that upward bias are not fully understood, but it seems to have something to do with the fact you're comparing to somebody who has something that you don't. But on the hand, they're also a potentially inspiring, potentially motivating. They can sort of get you moving to to work harder in some cases as well....
