The Buddha and the Authority of Scripture
The Buddha mentions scripture, but that tends to imply something written down. So we don't quite know what is meant by scripture in this place. Do you think the measure means some kind of reference to the Vedic? Well, no, the Vedic tradition was oral at that time. The Braheman's were passing on the Vedas with tremendous accuracy as an oral tradition. They didn't want to write it down. Maybe just like loads of the land.
