There was a band aboard yon o who were self employed contractors. They weren't under anybody's command, and it was up to them what they did when the disaster struck. To a man, they chose to stay behind and chose to keep playing. A million people from britain and the empire died in the first world war. But in terms of the available proportionst the middling class men took a disproportionate het. And so just as titanic was steaming towards the iceberg, europe was plunging headlong towards the carnage of the fosporold war.
