You can't, you know, jump in a time machine and go back to that one particular conversation and tell yourself not to say those things. That's just not how it works. If all your doing is focusing on the could have, should have in the past, you can't change it. However, if you're saying, ok, i'm not to look at what i could have done differently, but instead of beating myself up, i wont to figure out how i can improve on that moving forward. And that's how you make improvements in relationships.
