The Supreme Court's Doctrine in Hope v. Peltzer
There is a Supreme Court doctrine that should have been helpful here. It arose out of a case called Hope v. Peltzer. And it involved an incident in an Alabama prison where there was a disagreement between a prisoner and one of the guards. They chained this guy to a post outside in the very hot sun and made him go full day without drinking any water. Even tormented him by giving water to a prison dog nearby so he could see that. You know it when you see it as bad enough, when it smells bad enough.
