The Importance of Beliefs in Adulthood
Sally Kohn: I always believe that true adulthood is when you revisit your beliefs in this site, which ones are yours and which ones were put on you. You mentioned a study also about how employees were treated at work and how that bled into how they treated their families. The basic finding is that people who are micromanaged at work then become more controlling parents at home with their kids. And if the, I guess the underlying idea is that if you're robbed of freedom in one domain of your life, then you work extra hard to seize it in another.
