The Shah's Repression of the Islamic Republic of Iran

The Shah's rule was a repressive one. Critics and political opponents were gelled, tortured or executed. In January 1979, the Shah flew out of Iran, never to return. By March, a referendum had approved the creation of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
