The Problem With New Year's Resolutions
Despite the popularity of New Year's resolutions, objective evidence that they work is limited. One study found after 15 weeks participants with pledges unrelated to weight loss, considered themselves successful with three quarters of what they resolved to do. People who reported a greater use of stimulus controls, greater willpower and using self reward more consistently, were likely to achieve greater success rates.
