The Passive Acceptance of Suffering
Jesse Zink: I've been reading this semester a lot of Martin Luther King. He's talking all the time about unmerited suffering and how that can be redemptive. And it's not a passive acceptance of suffering for King, I think, but a really assertive. How would you distinguish the two positions? JesseZink: It actually sounds like an example of the kind of thing I'm trying to get at. The activity that is still, I mean, nonviolence, for example, is a fascinating bringing together of passivity and creativity.
