There's a myth that monolingualism is the norm and it's great as long as the language you know is English. How does this kind of focus on monolingualist shape a worldview? "It gives us an incomplete understanding of the human potential, the human mind," she says. The majority culture most often doesn't need to or think they don't need to bother themselves without a language unless it's a way to enrich themselves in a sort of a cultural marker prestige.
