If you're not doing any strength training or plios right now, I would recommend that you shorten your run by ten to 15 minutes and add this in. Losing a mile or so of running is far less impactful than skipping this work. Find ways to sneak some extra walking in during phone calls or park farther away from the grocery store. You can be a complete beast in the five k in the fraction of the time you need to invest in marathon training. And finally, my last tip is to choose your goal wisely. Endurance running, by definition, takes a long time. So find something that inspires you and then train for it really, really well.
