The government gave forward subsidies to develop these things and sell them. And then as the purchaser, the government also gets a tax credit for purchasing an electric vehicle. So yes, it's cheaper on paper, but ultimately more is being spent by the taxpayer if you take away the subsidies and the tax credits. It will take up less of your budget, but ultimately cost the taxpayer of the United States more.
