The Rise and Fall of the Modern Review
At its peak, after a couple of years, it was doing very well and selling about 25,000 copies. It was all produced out of my bed-sit in Shebbert's Bush. And I had fantasies that, you know, parlaying these early, inauspicious beginnings into a kind of global media brand. But I ended up falling out with Julie in 1995 when she left Cosmo and ran off with Charlotte Raven - who wanted to make me editor. So in secret, I produced a final issue of the modern review and published it announcing that I'd shut it down because I'd fought them out with Julie.
