Octavia Butler - A Black Science Fiction Writer
Octavia Butler was among a small group of black science fiction writers to get published. Some call her the mother of Afro-Futurism, an open-ended genre combining science fiction, fantasy, and history in order to imagine a liberated future through a black lens. She wrote more than a dozen books, essays, and short stories. Her novels have made it to the New York Times bestseller list for the first time in 2020. There are multiple TV and film adaptations of her books in the works.
