This is something that was around before social media. People are going to way exaggerate how extreme the other side is and underestimate how ideological their own side is. A simple 15 minute conversation between a republican and a democrat in a library m can move our opinions of each other by about 15 per centage points on a hundred point scale, which is a huge effect,. especially in such polarized times.
