The Death of the Omorites
Joshua moon suggests that the death in question here is the end of the house of ahab. Alternatively, we might see in this the downfall of hoshea. However, even after such a downfall, they continued to compound their sin by making for themselves metal images. Josea points out that these are all the work of craftsmen. These creations of human artisans are completely unfitting to represent god who has created all things. In verse three, they are compared to a morning mist or dew that vanishes early,. They will not endure as the sun rises or as the wind comes, they will disappear or be driven away.
