The History of the Solar Eclipse Prediction
The first case where we know for sure that someone accurately predicted the solar eclipse was on May 3, 1715. English astronomer Edmund Halley used Newton's new theories to pinpoint an eclipse that would be visible in London. But all subsequent solar eclipse predictions require a lot of information not available in ancient Greece.
