Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been updated for modern readers. The umpelumpas were changed from black to white as a response to widespread accusations of racism. It was only in December of 2020, 30 years after he confirmed his racist beliefs, that the Rold Dahl story company formally acknowledged and apologised for his antisemitism. They didn't see it coming. We now know more than ever before about the authors whose books we read,. And the line between the art and the artist has never been so blurred. If an author becomes known more for their behaviour or views of the page and people start to think that behaviour doesn't match the image they're buying into, it affects the brand
