Drilling is not meant to have the hydrocarbons at the surface when you're drilling. If you're a driller and you smell hydrocarbons, then you were in real trouble. The frame analysis makes it clear that everything they do is going to be effected by all the other functions and other activities that are going on. They talk about equipment malfunctions as needing to be repaired, not as these exceptional events, but is just like an almost ever present routine. Part of doing the work is dealing with these disruptions,. Deal with equipment that's not working, dealing with things not being perfect, but the job still needing to get done.
