The Importance of Values in Cities
I think the best argument to have is a values argument of how much are we willing to pay to keep a team in our town. I don't want the government coming in to tilt the field against these private entities, particularly ones that are smaller and have a harder time because we all like sports. If you're going to take other people's money, the onus is on you to explain why there's a very big problem. And when you get to that point where you're taking people's money without their consent, you need to have a good reason to do it.
