The Windish in the Jazz of the 1970s

Until the 19th century, windish was used as a German sitting in for Slavic. In the 20th century it narrowed ideologically to those willing to assimilate loyal Slovenes. From both sides of the split, windish can pejoratively signify agile and windy. The old meaning of windish as twisted, strange, disorderly always resonated.
