I Am the Gate
Jesus calls himself the gate as in the only way in and out. He is making a statement of exclusivity here, but exclusivity to what? Exactly. There's a number of literary cues, particularly in this parable, that make it clear that Jesus is speaking directly about relationship with the Father or relationship with God. The way you've seen me living, the way you've watched me relating to my Father, all of that is now available to you. I am the access point to that relationship, that life. But that's still not even close to how he says it.
