Lebanese Civil War codified sectarianism even more than it was before the war. It made it almost basically impossible for anyone to identify in any other way other than with your sect. Part of the reason why it's been so difficult to really organize is that there are four times more people who actually live in Beirut than those registered to vote in Beirut.
