The Four Institutional Types of Failure
The capacity of American colleges and universities to nurture something that's truly worthy of the name education is rapidly diminishing. The blame for that, I think, rests chiefly with the autocratic boards that rule the academy as well as the senior administrators doing their bidding. More specifically, I think today the distinction between higher education and workforce training is in danger of complete collapse. And when this process is complete, right, the conversion of the academy's fruits into commodities will no longer be distinguishable from whatever goes on within corporate universities create.
