The Role of Terms in Discourse

The terms we use operate almost 100% of the time in our discourse with that web of meaning and with the values associated with it. And you have to work really hard to have a value neutral conversation about something, and whether it meets certain criteria, that sort of thing. I think when we use terms like male or black or female or whatever, we're doing that. The argument is with the nexus of meanings that are associated with the term not with the objective reality of the biology or the behavior of the people.
