Can Chamomile Help Sedation?
There are two main types of GABA receptor. The one we're most interested in when it comes to sedation is the GABA receptor. If you can open that channel up and get chloride moving into the cells, it has an inhibitory effect on them. And you're going to get sedation across the parts of the central nervous system. For all these herbs, we can identify in the teas or the essential oils. There are hundreds of different chemicals that the plant produces. In virtually all these cases, we're never quite certain which is the active chemical or group of chemicals that are most relevant.
