At the same time that stroke happened, though, at least a dozen instances of ball lightning appeared all over the town. One was above the bridge, crossed the river. The guy who was in charge of the weather station there, his phone started ringing off the wall. So overall, this first group of explanations, there might be something here. It might even explain some aspects of it physically, but it's incomplete.
For millennia, people have been reporting stories of mysterious spheres of light that glow, crackle, and hover eerily during thunderstorms. They’ve been spotted in people’s homes, and are even said to be able to pass through windows. No one knows how ball lightning forms — but that’s not stopping scientists from attempting to recreate it in their labs.
