Tanks were, I think, a lower priority item amongst the broad range of needs that the Ukrainian military had. tanks became very symbolic politically, and the controversy was involved around German policy. So essentially, I think it was a sort of self-created embroilio within German politics. Much what I had to do with a symbol is much less the actual practicality. In fact, Ukraine had been provided several hundred tanks for the past years,. most of them different types of T-72 variants, some T-55s.
